Turtle and the Moon
Turtle thanked the Moon
Turtle had had many lives
How much coincidence do you think there is?
The days and weeks and months running together
Turtle spoke with great care
Turtle told stories
How old are you?
In a comfortable spot
The words of a stranger cut deeply
He brought his concerns to his teacher
You cannot describe a sunset by lighting a match
The full moon will arrive that evening
The impossible darkness painted the horizon
As if being poured from a caldron
Its beauty mesmerizing
Like a giant ship it climbed
This is the time he had been waiting for
The beauty of her song washed over him
It had been a lousy metaphor
Rabbit and his cousin
But there were others
He smiled and thanked her again
Moon has reminded me why I am here
